ACCURE Report: 19% of Global BESS Hardware Faces Operational Issues

The 2025 ACCURE Energy Storage System Health & Performance Report, the first of its kind, has shed light on the operational status of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) worldwide. This comprehensive analysis, covering June to September 2025, offers valuable insights into the growing importance and challenges of BESS in the global energy transition.

The report examined data from over 100 grid-scale BESS systems, totalling 18 GWh of operational assets. It revealed that 19% of BESS hardware components faced operational issues that directly affected revenue. These issues ranged from automatic shutdowns and recurring safety alerts to rack- or module-level imbalances, all of which can reduce usable capacity and hasten battery degradation. Despite these challenges, BESS remains increasingly central to the global energy transition, underscoring the need for real-world performance insights to guide investors, developers, and operators in the BESS industry.

The 2025 ACCURE Energy Storage System Health & Performance Report highlights the significant operational and financial risks in the BESS sector. With 19% of hardware components experiencing issues that impacted revenue, the report underscores the need for robust data analysis and performance monitoring to ensure the safe and efficient deployment and management of BESS assets at scale.
