After a span of 140 years, legacy Point of Sale (POS) giant NCR Voyix aims for a self-transformation

In the ever-evolving world of restaurant technology, NCR Voyix, formerly known as National Cash Register, has been making significant strides in recent years. The company, with a rich history dating back to 1884, has been reinventing itself to meet the demands of the digital economy.

One of the key aspects of NCR Voyix's transformation is its focus on integrated software-driven solutions and advanced digital commerce technologies. This shift is evident in its strategic partnerships, product upgrades, and adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as edge computing systems.

A notable innovation is NCR Voyix's edge computing product, which allows data processing on-site at the restaurant. This system speeds up transaction processing, provides offline backup capabilities, and simplifies software updates. Its edge product is unique because it supports running the entire tech stack, including the Point of Sale (POS), locally on the edge layer, enhancing reliability and performance for restaurants.

This approach has proven successful, as evidenced by NCR Voyix's four-year contract extension with Buffalo Wild Wings, a major win that saw the company snatch the account from a competitor at the last minute in April[1]. The company's edge computing system is already in use at over 8,500 retail locations[2].

NCR Voyix's renewed focus on software solutions is reflected in its customer-first philosophy and fresh product pipeline. The company has welcomed Miguel Solares, the chief revenue officer for enterprise, who joined NCR Voyix in March to head up the company's sales team[3]. Solares, known for his deep background in the restaurant POS space and ability to communicate effectively with restaurant operators, was recruited by James Kelly, NCR Voyix's new CEO, to improve communication and collaboration within the company[4].

Kelly has been actively engaging with NCR Voyix's restaurant customers, visiting the CEOs of 72 of them over the past six months[5]. This customer-centric approach, combined with the company's innovative edge computing technology, is expected to drive NCR Voyix's growth and position it as a leader in the restaurant technology market.

The company's future plans include exploring emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and expanding managed service solutions to support restaurant operators[6]. With its dominant footprint in the restaurant tech market, thanks to its Aloha POS system, and its commitment to innovation, NCR Voyix is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the restaurant industry in the digital economy.
