AI authentication startup, Scalekit, secures $5.5M funding for safeguarding the future of AI agents

Users historically interacted with applications under the belief that they were human, inputting passwords, passing multi-factor authentication, and manually logging out when a session ended. This model proved effective for the realm of web and mobile applications, but the landscape is evolving...

AI authentication startup, Scalekit, secures $5.5M funding for safeguarding the future of AI agents

In a significant development for the AI-driven enterprise, Scalekit, a company focused on building infrastructure for agent identities, has announced the close of a $5.5 million seed round. The funding round was led by Together Fund and Z47.

Scalekit's mission is to address the evolving needs of AI agents in the modern enterprise. Authentication, once considered a background utility, is poised to become one of the defining enablers of the AI-driven enterprise. As AI agents take on increasingly complex roles, the challenge isn't just preventing breaches; it's also about enabling agents to safely collaborate, negotiate, and execute tasks within complex ecosystems.

The company, founded by the team behind Freshworks' original authentication platform, is positioned to lead this transformation. Scalekit's platform provides OAuth 2.1 authorization for Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, encrypted token vaults, and secure tool-calling layers.

The emergence of Scalekit suggests how authentication may evolve: lightweight, modular, and built with agents as first-class citizens. The platform eliminates the need for teams to reinvent their own auth systems while lowering the security risks tied to agent workflows.

In the near future, identity stacks will need to support ephemeral credentials, fine-grained consent models, auditable logs, and cross-platform interoperability. Scalekit's modular design allows teams to add authentication modules as needed, starting with passwordless logins or two-factor OTPs and expanding into agent-specific features.

The funding will enable the launch of Scalekit's authentication stack designed specifically for AI-native apps. Gartner forecasts that by 2028, 25% of enterprise breaches will come from compromised AI agents, underscoring the urgency of this development.

Companies like Fello, Sifthub, Napkin, Unstract, Hubbl, and Aerchain rely on Scalekit to speed up their go-to-market timelines. Fello integrated Scalekit's passwordless module without re-architecting their app, while Sifthub avoided months of complexity by leveraging Scalekit's ready-to-go agentic workflows.

In an economy where agents act alongside humans, governance and accountability become crucial aspects of authentication systems. Traditional identity systems are showing their age and are not well-suited for AI agents. Scalekit's platform provides a drop-in toolkit that verifies agent identity, enforces precise authorization, and integrates seamlessly with MCP servers.

The rise of AI agents represents a fundamental shift in how work is done and demands new approaches to identity, security, and governance. Scalekit is at the forefront of this revolution, providing a solution that is both innovative and practical for the AI-driven enterprise.
