AI-generated videos: Veo 3 offers 1080p resolution, vertical footage, and a cheaper price tag

Google has announced updates to its AI video generation models, Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast, as well as the older Veo 2 model. These updates aim to improve the quality and versatility of AI-generated videos, making them more suitable for a variety of platforms and uses.

Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast: Improved Quality and Speed

The Veo 3 models offer higher video quality compared to Veo 3 Fast, which generates content faster and at a lower cost or AI credit. Both models can create up to 8-second-long video clips, including audio, and are accessible via the Gemini API, the Gemini app, and Google's AI video tool Flow (in testing).

Veo 3 Fast: Affordable and Efficient

For those seeking a more cost-effective solution, Veo 3 Fast is now available. A second of AI video generated with Veo 3 Fast now costs 0.15 USD instead of 0.40 USD per second. This makes it an attractive option for those who require quick, high-quality video content at a lower price point.

Veo 3: Improved Quality and Resolution

On the other hand, Veo 3 offers improved video quality. A second of AI video generated with Veo 3 now costs 0.40 USD instead of 0.75 USD. This update aims to make high-quality video content more accessible to a wider audience.

Resolution and Aspect Ratio Options

The API parameter "resolution" can now be set to 1080p for 16:9 videos, allowing for Full HD output. For vertical videos (9:16 aspect ratio), the default remains 720p, but can be adjusted using the "aspectRatio" parameter. In 9:16 mode, only the 720p quality setting is available for vertical videos.

It's important to note that the older Veo 2 model does not support resolution adjustment, and is limited to the default 720p resolution.

Embracing the Era of Vertical Videos

The latest update allows for the creation of vertical videos (9:16 aspect ratio) on the Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast models, suitable for social media platforms and YouTube Shorts. This move reflects Google's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of content creators in the digital age.

Looking Forward: 4K Resolution for Veo 3

In the future, Veo 3 is expected to support 4K resolution, according to Google DeepMind. This upgrade will further enhance the quality of AI-generated videos, making them more competitive with professionally produced content.

Subscription Options

Access to the Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast models is available through Google's paid AI subscriptions: AI Pro for 21.99 EUR per month or AI Ultra for 274.99 EUR per month. Google AI Pro includes access to Veo 3 Fast and three videos per day, while Google AI Ultra allows for up to five videos per day using Veo 3.

These updates to Google's AI video generation models demonstrate the company's continued investment in AI technology and its commitment to providing high-quality, versatile, and accessible solutions for content creators.
