Alcatel's return to India, highlighted by Madhav Sheth, emphasizes innovation and domestic production.
French technology company Alcatel makes a comeback to the Indian smartphone market, announcing its plans to launch a new lineup of devices. This return marks the end of a seven-year hiatus, as Madhav Sheth confirmed the company's intentions to re-establish its presence in the country.
The brand will reintroduce itself with a range of smartphones, featuring premium models and devices equipped with styluses. Although specific details regarding the exact lineup, specifications, and other aspects have yet to be disclosed, the devices are expected to focus on local manufacturing and technology-driven innovation.
In a post on social media, Sheth expressed his excitement about the launch and revealed that the partnership with Nxtcell India will enable technology transfers, patent-driven innovation, and local manufacturing that aligns with India's vision for self-reliance in technology.
Previously marked as "Coming Soon" on Flipkart, four Alcatel smartphones were listed: the Idol 4, U5 HD, 3X, and OneTouch Flash 6042D. However, these products have since been removed from the e-commerce platform.
The first Alcatel smartphone set to launch in India will incorporate stylus support and be manufactured locally before being sold on Flipkart. This move comes as other brands, such as Honor, begin to fade from the Indian smartphone industry.
The V3 series of smartphones – the Ultra 5G, Pro 5G, and Classic 5G – were officially launched on May 27, 2025. The devices are equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processors and India's first patented NXTPAPER display technology, which offers a paper-like reading experience, reduced eye strain, and vibrant colors.
The V3 Ultra 5G boasts a 6.8-inch NXTPAPER screen with stylus support, a 108MP UltraPixel main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro cameras, and Android 15 software out-of-the-box. The V3 Classic 5G features a 6.67-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, dual rear cameras, and is available in two RAM options with a 5200mAh battery.
The V3 Pro 5G, while details are less specified in recent sources, is expected to share many of the advanced features as the Ultra, with likely differences in display size, camera setup, or storage options.
Alcatel aims to become a top-three brand in the Indian smartphone market within three years and plans to expand into other tech categories. The devices will be manufactured in partnership with Padget Electronics, a Dixon Technologies subsidiary. The full lineup of Alcatel smartphones becomes available exclusively through Flipkart starting June 2, 2025.
