All-electric Alpine A390 sport fastback unveiled, boasting a design reminiscent of the A110 while accommodating seating for five passengers.
Alpine, the French sports car manufacturer closely associated with Renault, has unveiled its second all-electric model – the A390. This sharply styled, all-wheel-drive (AWD) sport fastback is built on Renault Group's AmpR Medium EV platform and assembled in Dieppe, France, at the Jean Rédélé factory.
Design and Features
The A390 boasts a coupe-like silhouette, intricate bonnet channels, and lighting details like the 'Cosmic Dust' front signature, with the Alpine logo subtly projected. A subtle A110 silhouette is hidden in the windscreen corner, paying homage to Alpine's rich heritage.
Inside the A390, you'll find twin digital displays – a 12.3-inch instrument and a 12-inch infotainment screen. The cockpit is swathed in leather, Alcantara, and features a high-end 13-speaker audio system by Devialet.
One-pedal driving, launch control, and Alpine Drive Sound are just a few of the features that mimic torque feedback through audio. The A390 also offers the convenience of a roomy boot with up to 532L of capacity and comfortable rear seats designed to accommodate adult passengers.
Performance and Powertrain
The A390 is equipped with three electric motors: one up front and two at the rear. This setup enables Alpine's new Active Torque Vectoring system. The GT version of the A390 produces 295 kW, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 200 km/h. The GTS version, on the other hand, produces 345 kW, 808 Nm of torque, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.9 seconds.
The manufacturer claims the A390's powertrain can handle repeated full-throttle runs, even with less-than-full battery charge. DC fast charging for the A390 tops out at 190kW, with 15 to 80% reportedly achievable in under 25 minutes. The A390's battery enables up to 555km of range (WLTP, pending approval).
Extras and Safety
The A390's GT version features forged 21-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, while the GTS version includes Sabelt bucket seats. The red 'Overtake' button on the wheel delivers a 10-second power boost.
The A390's Telemetrics suite offers real-time performance data, track-day coaching, and video overlays via smartphone. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
In conclusion, the Alpine A390 is a promising addition to the electric sports car market. With its sleek design, powerful performance, and innovative features, it's set to challenge the status quo in the world of electric vehicles.
