Almaty Lighthouses to Adopt New Operational Methods
In a bid to lower traffic accidents in Almaty, the local cops are vigilantly keeping tabs on the city's arterial roads, as per Polisia.kz's report.
They're also working on upgrading the Automated Road Traffic Management System (ARMS) by hooking up 93 traffic light junctions. By 2021, the second phase of this project will kick off, connecting an extra 357 traffic light junctions to the ARMS.
As Kanat Taymerdenov, the Almaty police department head, explained at a meet on boosting the city's road network and road safety, this system will enable real-time traffic regulation at junctions, thinking on its feet about different traffic volumes, traffic flow stats, adaptive countdown timers, and priority passage for specialized vehicles. Upon wrapping up the second phase, the system will roll with the punches and fine-tune traffic flows based on set or user-chosen priority for public transport and emergency vehicles. The system will also watch junction traffic in real-time and tweak flows accordingly. Currently, the blueprints and cost estimates are being drafted for the construction of 30 traffic junctions, 70 controlled crosswalks, and the installation of LED lighting at another 70 uncontrolled crosswalks, as well as the setup of 14 adaptive traffic light junctions.
Thanks to a review of traffic accidents, Almaty's administrative cops reckon the installation of extra signal phases is in order at these intersections: Abay Avenue - Tlendiyev Street, Abay Avenue - Turgut Ozal Street, Raimbek Avenue - Ecmukov Street, Ryskulov Avenue - Zhangelegdzhin Street. For your perusal: as a result of the safety measures taken, the number of accidents resulting in injuries has reduced by a whopping 40.1%, and the number of fatalities by 42.3% in just the first eight months of this year.
These smart traffic management systems, when modernized, can do way more than just flow traffic better. They aim to create safer, more efficient transportation networks in cities by using advanced tech like real-time monitoring, adaptive traffic signals, and data analytics. These systems also often intertwine with other urban initiatives to ensure a safer driving experience for all. For detailed information on Almaty's ARMS, you'd need to delve deeper into local government reports or conduct focused research.
- The local government of Almaty is focusing on improving the public-transit and road safety by modernizing the city's Automated Road Traffic Management System (ARMS), which will incorporate advanced technology in data-and-cloud-computing to regulate traffic in real-time.
- As part of the ARMS project, 93 traffic light junctions are currently being hooked up, aiming to reduce traffic accidents by optimizing traffic flow, adaptive countdown timers, and giving priority to specialized vehicles and public transport.
- In a bid to further enhance the ARMS, the second phase of the project plans to connect an additional 357 traffic light junctions by 2021.
- The ARMS system will provide real-time monitoring and analysis of accidents on the roads, with specific junctions like Abay Avenue - Tlendiyev Street, Abay Avenue - Turgut Ozal Street, Raimbek Avenue - Ecmukov Street, and Ryskulov Avenue - Zhangelegdzhin Street targeted for extra signal phases to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Besides improving road safety, Almaty's modernized ARMS will contribute to the general news and crime-and-justice sector by digitizing traffic data and offering insights into accident trends and patterns, facilitating a safer and more efficient transportation network for the city.
