Amazon's New Fire TV Stick 4K Select Offers 4K HDR10+ at a Lower Price
Amazon has introduced the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, its latest streaming device. It's the first to run the new Vega OS and supports 4K with HDR10+, but it lacks Dolby Vision and Atmos. It's also cheaper than the regular Fire TV Stick 4K.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Select marks a shift to Amazon's new Linux-based Vega OS, leaving behind the previous Android Open Source Project (AOSP) system. It offers 4K streaming with HDR10+, but misses out on Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, features available in the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It has 1GB of RAM, less than the 2GB in the Fire TV Stick 4K. App support at launch may be limited due to the new OS.
The device supports Wi-Fi 5, unlike the Fire TV Stick 4K with Wi-Fi 6 and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max with Wi-Fi 6E. It does not support sideloading, a feature present in other 4K models. Despite these differences, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is cheaper, with list prices of $39.99 / £49.99 compared to the Fire TV Stick 4K's $49.99 / £59.99.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Select is available for order now and will start shipping on October 15, 2025. While it offers 4K streaming and is cheaper than its predecessor, it lacks certain features like Dolby Vision and Atmos, and has less RAM. The new Vega OS may also impact app availability at launch.
