ANA & Joby Aviation Partner for Electric Air Taxis in Japan Ahead of Expo 2025
ANA Holdings, in collaboration with US-based Joby Aviation, has announced a partnership to develop and operate electric air taxis in Japan, ahead of the Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai. This marks a significant step towards Japan's goal of leading in air transportation innovation.
The partnership, which does not specify a Japanese counterpart, aims to foster the development and operation of electric air taxis. Joby Aviation, a leading player in this field, will work with ANA Holdings to support the infrastructure and operation in Japan.
Japan seeks to replicate its success in ground transportation innovation in the air. The partnership between ANA and Joby has already demonstrated Joby's air taxi with a public flight at the Expo 2025. The flight showcased the vertical takeoff, transition to winged flight, and vertical landing capabilities of the electric air taxi.
Over the next 13 days, Joby Aviation plans to conduct more than 20 flights at the Expo. The companies aim to establish a national air taxi ecosystem in Japan, including vertiports and pilot training programs.
The partnership between ANA Holdings and Joby Aviation signals Japan's commitment to leading in air transportation innovation. With successful demonstrations and plans for extensive flights at the Expo, the stage is set for the development of a national air taxi ecosystem in Japan.
