Analysis: Evaluation of Taurus GX2 Model
Taurus Introduces the GX2: A Compact and Reliable 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol
Taurus has expanded its firearm lineup with the introduction of the GX2, a recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Luger. The GX2 was unveiled at the Gunsite Academy, demonstrating Taurus' confidence in the pistol's performance.
The GX2 is designed to be user-friendly, reliable, and feature-packed. It boasts a trigger with a take-up, a solid wall, a clean break at 6 lbs., 4 ozs., and a short and positive reset. The slide and barrel assembly of the GX2 mimic the GX4, with upper and front bevels for concealed carry and deep slide serrations.
The GX2 offers a balance between carryability and shootability, with an overall length of 6.13", a height of 4.88", and a weight of 21 ozs., unloaded. The pistol's magazine is double-column/single-feed and has a small circumference at the top of the grip for a confident firing hold. Taurus is offering an extended 15-round GX2 magazine as an accessory, making the GX2's magazine capacity 13 rounds, between the flush-mounted 11-round magazines of the GX4 and GX4XL and the 15-round GX4 Carry.
The GX2's slide does not have a notch for an optic, but it does feature a molded-in M1913 Picatinny rail for mounting lights and lasers. The GX2's dustcover also includes a Picatinny rail, providing additional versatility for accessories.
The GX2 uses a striker-fired action and has a modular fire-control chassis that is the "firearm," as it bears the serial number. The pistol also includes an external takedown lever, making the takedown procedure more user-friendly compared to the GX4.
The black-slide version of the GX2 has an MSRP of $310, which is about $175 less than the GX4 Carry. The GX2's grip module has eight available colours and a unique stippling pattern, allowing for personal customisation.
The GX2 can be carried in an IWB PHLster Skeleton or an OWB UM Tactical Qualifier holster, providing options for various carrying styles. The Taurus GX2 with a Picatinny rail for mounting lights and lasers is also offered by Taurus and various authorized firearm dealers.
The GX2 cannot be unloaded with the manual safety engaged and the slide retracted enough to chamber a new round, ensuring safety during the unloading process.
Taurus continues to make "protection accessible to every American" with the introduction of the GX2, a reliable and feature-packed compact-size handgun.
