In a significant move, Google has rolled out an update for its AI-powered assistant app, Gemini, bringing a refreshed look and improved functionality to both Android and iOS devices.

The heart of the update is the new Gemini icon, a vibrant four-color design using Google's signature colours (red, yellow, green, and blue) that replaces the previous two-toned blue icon. The new icon features a rounded star shape and a larger logo, enhancing its visibility and cohesiveness with Google's other core services.

On Android devices, the update brings changes to the homescreen widget, including new shortcuts for quick access to Gemini Live modes like Video and Screenshare. The widget is now less visually dense, with a simplified prompt field, making it more direct and useful.

iPhone users, meanwhile, can now enjoy the convenience of a conversation search feature within the app, allowing them to search past conversations. This feature, which debuted first on iOS, underscores Apple's platform priority for Gemini enhancements.

The web version of the Gemini app is not left behind, with updates to the icon expected soon, aligning all platforms under the new branding.

Furthermore, rumours suggest that Gemini will soon introduce customizable personalities called "Gems" integrated into Workspace apps such as Gmail, Drive, and Docs. This would extend Gemini's AI presence and personalization across Google's productivity suite.

The new Gemini widget update also brings changes to its functionality and layout, with options like Video and Screenshare now easily accessible. The 5x1 widget option, for instance, offers quick access to various Gemini Live modes.

However, it's important to note that the new update does not include the new voices for Nest Mini or the Gemini Scheduled Actions on the web. The updated Gemini icon is not yet available on the web or iOS app.

In summary, the new Gemini icon rollout on iOS and Android marks the start of a broader evolution of the app, with enhanced functionality like conversation search on iOS, richer widgets on Android, and forthcoming web updates, along with plans to deepen Gemini's integration and personalization within Google's ecosystem.
