Android users get the four-color glow feature with Gemini overlay update
Google's Gemini Overlay Update Brings Vibrant Four-Color Glow to Android Devices
As of early July 2025, Google's Gemini overlay on Android devices has received a significant update, introducing a four-color glow animation that is now accessible to all stable users with the Google app version 16.30 update.
The rollout, which began in late June, initially introduced the four-color icon on Android and iOS devices. The full overlay update, activated by gestures or long-pressing the power button, followed suit, reaching stable users by early August.
The animation uses a vibrant combination of red, yellow, green, and blue colors, with light blue becoming the dominant glow color shortly after activation. This update replaced the previous blue-purple palette, aiming to unify Gemini’s look on Android, iOS, and the web.
To experience the new four-color glow animation, users should update to Google app 16.30 or later and use gestures like swiping up from the bottom corners or long-pressing the power button to trigger the Gemini overlay.
The update also brings changes to the Gemini app's visual identity. The new Gemini app greeting is blue, and the logo is rounded. These changes, partially influenced by some Gemini advertisements using the four colors to emphasize the Google connection, aim to strengthen the association between the two brands.
It's important to note that the update is not yet available on the web. Additionally, the old icon remains in the Recents multitasking menu due to how the overlay is powered.
Google has rolled out the new Gemini icon to Android and iOS homescreens, with the update reaching both platforms as of last week. However, the updated blue greeting is limited to the Google app beta on Android. The updated Gemini overlay colors have not been widely rolled out as of today.

Some users may be excited to learn that the latest update for Google's Gemini overlay on Android devices includes a vibrant four-color glow animation, similar to the update on smartphones. This new feature, reminiscent of the four-color icon, can be triggered by performing gestures or by long-pressing the power button.
The update also extends to the visual identity of the Gemini app, with a new round logo and a blue greeting. This design change partially mirrors some of the Gemini advertisements that use the four colors to emphasis the association with Google, aiming to further strengthen the bond between the two brands.
