Apple Intends to Enhance Vision Pro Devices with New Features, According to Sources

Apple's Vision Pro VR headset, which has been underperforming since its launch a year ago, is set for an upgrade. According to reports, the device will soon integrate Apple Intelligence, a new AI technology that is expected to significantly enhance its AI capabilities.

Apple Intelligence, available on the iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and the upcoming iPhone SE 4, is set to come to the Vision Pro in the visionOS 2.4 software update, expected to roll out as soon as April. This integration will enable the Vision Pro to tap into the power of ChatGPT and process requests using Private Cloud Compute.

With Apple Intelligence, Siri will be upgraded to understand images and documents, and summarise phone notifications. The data used by Apple Intelligence is anonymised to ensure user privacy.

The new AI technology will also bring several new features to the Vision Pro. The Writing Tools interface, Genmojis, and the Image Playground app are some of the features currently available with Apple Intelligence that are expected to be included in the Vision Pro.

In addition to the AI enhancements, Apple is planning to improve the hardware of the Vision Pro. The device is expected to feature a more powerful M4 chip (a step up from the original M2) and an enhanced Neural Engine with more cores, which will boost AI processing performance to support Apple Intelligence features better. Apple is also reportedly working on introducing a new head strap to reduce wearer fatigue.

While the integration of Apple Intelligence is expected to improve the user experience, analysts suggest that this refreshed version of the Vision Pro is more of a mid-cycle update rather than a full second-generation device. The shipments of the Vision Pro in 2025 are expected to be between 150,000 and 200,000 units, making it a niche product.

Despite this, the integration of Apple Intelligence adds valuable new features to the Vision Pro, potentially making it more capable and user-friendly. This could help increase adoption and maintain momentum within Apple's ecosystem. However, it is unlikely to drive a mass-market surge for the device.

Bloomberg reported the news about Apple Intelligence coming to the Vision Pro on Saturday. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation about the report. Apple is also reportedly working on another Vision Pro headset, but details about this are yet to be revealed.

  1. The laptop's storage space could benefit from Apple Intelligence, as it is designed to process data efficiently, potentially freeing up memory.
  2. The Vision Pro's display, paired with Apple Intelligence, might support smoother gaming experiences and more realistic graphics.
  3. For those using the Vision Pro for gaming, a faster processor could be advantageous, and the reported M4 chip upgrade is a promising step in that direction.
  4. The anticipated software update for the Vision Pro, visionOS 2.4, will also bring the Ram improvement, ensuring smooth multitasking and enhanced performance.
  5. With the integration of Apple Intelligence, smartphone users may look forward to improved keyboard functions, such as predictive typing and autocorrect, in their devices.
  6. The integration of Apple Intelligence into the Vision Pro signals a new wave of advancements in gadgets and technology, setting the stage for even more innovative AI-driven products in the future.
