Artificial Intelligence: A Significant Advancement

In the heart of Europe, Germany is witnessing a significant surge in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into various industries. With an adoption rate of about 53%, the country is well above the European average, making it one of the AI frontrunners on the continent.

According to recent reports, over 600,000 German companies incorporated AI into their operations in 2024. This shift has brought about substantial economic benefits, with an average revenue increase of 34% and considerable productivity gains.

Many companies are not only leveraging AI for internal processes but also for enhancing their products and services. For instance, AI platforms like ALBERT, which connect to ERP and CRM systems, are being used to automate workflows and improve customer service by providing real-time data access.

However, the AI implementation is largely piecemeal, with a quarter of companies using only one AI application. Despite this, 9 out of 10 companies consider the country of origin of the AI provider important, with 93% expecting the AI Act to mean a high workload for them.

The political landscape is also showing interest in AI development. Businesses primarily seek a promotion of German AI providers, a reform of the AI Act, and better access to data.

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, companies are taking the responsibility to build their own AI expertise. A majority of 56% believe that the European AI Act creates more disadvantages than advantages for German companies.

AI is now a priority for a majority of German businesses, with 8 out of 10 companies (81%) viewing AI as the most important future technology. In response, 5% of all companies are specifically hiring staff with AI knowledge.

The adoption rate of AI in Germany has nearly doubled in the past year, with about every third company (36%) now using AI. AI is predominantly used in businesses for customer contact (88%) and marketing and communication (57%).

The AI & Quantum Summit by Bitkom, scheduled for September 16 and 17 in Berlin, is focusing on the use of AI. The event is expected to attract over 1,800 participants and over 200 speakers from business, research, and authorities.

However, despite the widespread adoption of AI, 43% of companies do not offer AI training for their employees. This could potentially be a concern as 29% of companies want to increase their AI investments.
