Asahi Group Holdings Hit by Qilin Ransomware, Orders Suspended
Japanese beverage giant Asahi Group Holdings has fallen victim to a ransomware attack, leading to temporary suspensions in orders, shipments, and customer service. The cybercriminal group Qilin has claimed responsibility for the breach, which may have resulted in the theft of sensitive data.
Asahi Group confirmed that ransomware was behind the incident, with Qilin, the most active ransomware group in 2025, claiming to have stolen 27 GB of files. These include financial documents and personal data, highlighting the potential severity of the breach. The attack has disrupted Asahi's operations, with orders, shipments, and customer service suspended. This follows a trend of manufacturers being frequent targets of ransomware attacks, with 138 confirmed incidents so far this year. Qilin, in particular, has been responsible for 105 confirmed attacks and 473 additional claims in 2025 alone. In Japan, Qilin has carried out four confirmed attacks this year, including the one on Asahi Group. The beverage giant is not the first manufacturer to face such disruptions; Jaguar Land Rover recently extended its cyberattack-induced production halt to October, underscoring supply chain vulnerabilities.
Asahi Group Holdings is the latest manufacturer to suffer a significant ransomware attack, with Qilin claiming responsibility for the breach. The incident has led to temporary suspensions in operations and the potential theft of sensitive data. As manufacturers continue to be frequent targets, robust cybersecurity measures will be crucial to mitigate such risks in the future.
