Authorities in Cyberabad lead a widespread arrest operation targeting online fraud activities, detaining a total of 45 suspects across the country.
In the bustling city of Cyberabad, India, online scams are a persistent problem that local cybercrime police are actively tackling. Between July 1 and July 22, 2025, the Cyberabad Cybercrime Police identified 25 cybercrime cases and made arrests of 45 suspects connected to various types of online frauds[1][2].
The most prevalent types of fraud include trading frauds and digital scams, where victims lose money to deceptive online schemes. Authorities have refunded nearly ₹99 lakh to victims after arrests in such cases[1]. Other common scams include illegal online cricket betting scams, which target youth through social media influencers and offshore betting platforms, and online job frauds where victims are tricked into paying money on false job offers or applications[3][4].
The Cyberabad Police recently conducted a three-week operation to arrest 45 people involved in these online scams from various states. Seventeen of the arrested individuals were linked to trading-related scams, ten to trading scams, five to vishing, four to fake job offers, one each to matrimonial fraud, business scams, and digital arrest cases[1].
Investigations into other linked networks are still underway. Notably, nine residents of West Bengal were running an illegal call center, targeting people in India and the United States[1]. During the raids, police seized nine laptops, 27 mobile phones, two bank passbooks, five debit cards, and one credit card.
This is not the first time Cyberabad Police has taken action against online fraudsters. Earlier this year, over 160 people were arrested in similar fraud cases involving fake trading platforms, investment scams, and job rackets[5].
Authorities are urging people to stay alert, especially while responding to unsolicited offers online. They advise not to share personal or financial information, and to verify the authenticity of any online platforms or individuals before engaging in any transactions.
In a significant move, the Cyberabad Police secured 153 court orders to refund a total of ₹99.14 lakh to victims in 40 separate cases[1]. This demonstrates the commitment of the Cyberabad Police to protect its citizens from online fraud and to ensure justice for victims.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, so too does the nature of online scams. However, with proactive measures and public awareness, it is possible to mitigate the impact of these scams and ensure a safer online environment for all.
