Airwallex Expands in the Netherlands, Bolstering Its Presence in Europe

Airwallex, a global payments and financial services platform, has announced significant growth and expansion in the Netherlands. The company's Q2 2025 revenue in the Netherlands increased by 199% year-on-year compared to Q2 2024, primarily driven by local market adaptation, innovative financial products, strategic hires, and integrated global payment solutions.

The growth is evident in Airwallex's customer base, which has nearly tripled in the same period. Notable Dutch clients such as Creative Fabrica and Aurum Brothers have joined the company's existing customer base.

Airwallex's localized product innovations include the introduction of NL IBANs, providing local account details, integration with Exact Online (a Dutch ERP system) to automate bookkeeping for Dutch businesses, and multi-currency settlement services that reduce foreign exchange costs and support preferred payment methods.

The company's success in the Netherlands is also attributed to the launch of Airwallex Yield, a product that allows businesses to earn competitive returns on idle multi-currency balances with flexibility and no lock-up periods. Airwallex recently received the Netherlands’ Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) licence from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), enabling this offering.

Airwallex has bolstered its commercial team with senior hires, including Tom Butlin as Senior Director Compliance, Laurens Maartens as Executive Director Yield, and Bart Verweij as Treasury Director. The NL team has expanded to a 50-strong headcount, including a large number of engineers.

The company's NL office has moved to a central location in the Silicon Canals. Airwallex's platform is being used by MatchWornShirt, one of the first customers in Amsterdam.

In addition, Airwallex recently closed a $300 million Series F funding round, valuing the business at $6.2 billion. The round was led by existing investors such as Square Peg, DST Global, Lone Pine Capital, and Salesforce Ventures, with participation from new investors Visa Ventures, Airtree, Blackbird, and others.

Airwallex has also announced a new global partnership with Arsenal football club. The partnership will see Airwallex become the club's Official Payment Partner, providing Arsenal with a seamless and efficient global payments solution.

With its strong foothold in the Dutch market, Airwallex offers Dutch businesses global payment capabilities integrated with local payment methods such as iDEAL, competitive FX rates, multi-currency accounts, corporate cards, bill pay, and expense tracking—all accessible via a single platform to simplify financial operations and support international trade.

Airwallex's expansion in the Netherlands is supported by the integration of local payment methods like iDEAL, and the launch of products such as NL IBANs and Airwallex Yield, which allows businesses to earn returns on idle multi-currency balances. The company's compliance is strengthened with the appointment of Tom Butlin as Senior Director Compliance. The financial infrastructure of Airwallex includes multi-currency settlement services, corporate cards, bill pay, and expense tracking, all accessible via a single platform.
