British retailer Borders introduces the Elonex E-Reader to its lineup from its UK division
In the digital world we now inhabit, the phrase "rat race" has been replaced by the more technological "e-reader race". Every big name in the tech industry has either launched, is planning to launch, or is in the process of crafting a new e-reader. This surge in e-reader development is definitely a boon for consumers, with manufacturers slashing costs and enhancing specifications to woo us.
Let's focus on one such offering, the Elonex, which entered the market last year with a bang, retailing for an attractive £189. This gadget is a feather-light 180 g in weight and barely 9 mm thick, making it incredibly thin and light. It sports a 6-inch e-ink screen and can soldier on for 8000 page flips on a single battery charge. The onboard memory has a capacity to store 1,000 e-books, expandable to an impressive 8000 with a 4 GB SD card. You even get a generous 100 free titles pre-loaded into the device!
The Elonex boasts support for the free Adobe Digital Editions software as well as DRM protected reflowable PDF and EPub formats - making it one of the first e-readers to come with these capabilities. It's also compatible with other less widespread e-book formats, images, and pictures. This means the Elonex outshines the Sony e-book reader in terms of format supportability and comes closer to the BeBook e-reader, though it still can't match the latter's extensive e-book format compatibility.
Elonex users can also make use of an expansive online e-book library offering 45,000 titles via the Borders UK website. They're even continuing sales of their iRex and iLiad readers, priced at £399 alongside the Elonex.

With a passion for technology, I make it a point to stay updated on the latest happenings in the world of gadgets. That includes cutting-edge smartphones, tablet devices, or daring technologies like AI and self-driven automobiles (which is my current obsession). Besides writing, I enjoy watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with novel recipes. The silver screen is another arena that piques my interest, and I have plans to direct a film sometime in the future.
