The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has announced the return of the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) for its 2024 edition. Originally known as the Tokyo Motor Show, the event will now focus on showcasing new technologies, products, services, and business models related to mobility, with an emphasis on contributing to the sustainable development of society in line with Society 5.0, an initiative promoting a super-smart society integrating cyberspace and physical space.

Chairman Masanori Katayama (Isuzu) revealed that this year's JMS will serve as a co-creation platform for 150 startups and 50 established companies, fostering new businesses through collaboration among companies from diverse industries and business sectors. The event will alternate between showcasing the latest mobility-related advances and a business-centric format for forging new partnerships and collaborations.

One of the unique features of JMS 2024 is the category recognizing proposals that are co-created by multiple companies, highlighting their advanced nature and contribution to society’s future development. This approach promotes open innovation and partnerships, accelerating the practical feasibility and marketability of technologies and services emerging from these collaborations.

The JMS also supports startups and research institutions by showcasing their advanced developments and helping bring their innovations to market, further strengthening the ecosystem for new business creation through joint efforts. Chairman Katayama plans to include reverse pitching in this year's JMS, focusing on co-creation and addressing challenges to create a new mobility society.

During the event, the Future Mobility Forum will feature JAMA's chairman and vice chairmen discussing their visions and challenges in working toward a mobility-based society. The Mobility Show will be held jointly with CEATEC, a comprehensive exhibition of digital innovation, aiming to work together to build a prosperous, promising future.

Chairman Toyoda made comments during a "big recap" on the event's final day, expressing the desire to bring together various groups of people. Opportunities for startups and established companies to communicate will be facilitated at the venue and online. Last year's JMS drew 1.11 million visitors, and the JMS website was launched on the day of the press conference.

The vision of mobility companies for the JMS is to serve as both suppliers of travel means and problem solvers for societal issues. The event will promote new partnerships with startups and established companies exhibiting their technologies and services. Mobility, as a concept, encompasses both unfortunate and exciting stories, making this year's JMS an event not to be missed for those interested in the future of transportation and its role in shaping a sustainable society.

In summary, JMS 2024 aims to be a hub for collaborative innovation in mobility, leveraging the strengths of various industries to build solutions aligned with sustainable and smart society goals, thus fostering new businesses through co-created technological and business model development. The event will run between October 15 and 18 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.
