Gamescom, Europe's largest event for interactive entertainment, has become more than just a platform for video games. It has evolved into a stage for showcasing new technologies, interfaces, and entertainment concepts, including those from the automotive industry.

This year, car manufacturers made a significant presence at Gamescom 2024. Opel, for instance, unveiled the Corsa Rally Electric in a striking "Gamescom Special Edition". The car featured a black and white body with bright yellow wheels, brake calipers, and pixelated lettering, making it a standout at the show.

Car manufacturers have realised the potential of Gamescom as a platform to enhance their brand image among cosplayers, AAA game enthusiasts, and the tech-savvy crowd. They showcased not only sports cars but also infotainment gadgets.

One such collaboration was between BMW, Mattel, and AirConsole, who presented the in-car game UNO at Gamescom 2024. The game, now available in around 500,000 BMW and Mini vehicles via an update, can be played via infotainment systems with smartphones as controllers, only in the parked state. They've dubbed it "UNO Car Party!".

Looking ahead to Gamescom 2025, Audi, BMW, and MINI have been confirmed participants. Audi and BMW are expected to showcase automotive infotainment and driver assistance systems respectively, while MINI's plans remain undisclosed. No other specific car manufacturers have been explicitly named for Gamescom 2025 as of now.

Mercedes also made a notable announcement at Gamescom 2024. They partnered with cloud gaming provider Boosteroid, allowing drivers to access over 1000 games, including Fortnite and other AAA titles, via the MBUX system in 2025.

As Gamescom continues to evolve, it's clear that the intersection of gaming and automotive industries is set to become a key feature of the event. With more announcements expected in the coming months, it will be interesting to see how these partnerships and technologies shape the future of both industries.
