Citizens of Kolymchana made aware of legislation enacted to safeguard them from deceitful individuals
Down with Scammers! New Law Protects Russian Citizens From Online Swindlers, Starting June 1, 2025
Get ready, folks! Starting next week, June 1, 2025, a federal law designed to keep you safe from deceitful online fraudsters kicks into action in the old Mother Russia. Our trusted news agency in Magadan Oblast has the scoop from none other than Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko himself.
Here's what's on the plates of these crafty fraud-fighters:
- Government agencies, banks, and telecom operators are barred from engaging in Messenger communications with clients. If you catch wind of any shady "bank" chats via a Messenger, better steer clear – it's likely a scheme cooked up by a conniving con artist.
- No more "Gosuslugi" access codes sent over the phone! This will give you a moment to breathe without panicking when the phone rings unexpectedly.
- A SIM card can now only be passed on to close kin, including parents, siblings, grandparents, children, and grandkids. With this move, authorities aim to boot out "droppers" – the sneaky henchmen who assist crooks in hiding and cashing out pilfered funds.
The crackdown on cyber fraud won't end here – Lawmakers will keep developing strategies to shield us from data leaks and theft. Enhancing cybersecurity is a top priority under the national project "Digital Economy".

The new law, effective from June 1, 2025, targeting online scammers in Russia extends beyond Messenger communication bans for government agencies and financial institutions. It also prohibits the sending of "Gosuslugi" access codes over the phone and restricts the transfer of SIM cards to immediate family members, aiming to combat the use of 'droppers'. This is part of the broader national project "Digital Economy", under which policy-and-legislation and technology are constantly evolving to improve cybersecurity and protect citizens from data leaks and theft, which falls under the politics and general-news category.
