City Rankings: Dinslaken Tops Wesel's Smart City List
In the 2025 Smart City Ranking by Haselhorst Associates, the city of Dinslaken has made a significant leap, climbing from 137th place in 2024 to 94th out of over 400 cities examined. This impressive progress places Dinslaken in the upper quarter nationwide and at the top of the Wesel district.
Nils Gilges, head of the digitalization department, attributes the city's progress to the development of digital service offerings in the service portal and various digital projects. The advancements in broadband expansion, facilitated by federal and state funding, as well as private, business-driven expansions by telecommunications companies, have been crucial in this achievement.
The 2025 Smart City Ranking evaluated over 33,000 data points and 60 criteria, covering areas such as administration, mobility, health, economy, and energy. The city administration views this result as a positive sign to continue on its chosen path towards reaching upcoming digital milestones.
Dinslaken's improvement in the "Administration" category, with a 10% increase, has played a significant role in the city's rise in the rankings. This progress is evident in the convenient and 24-hour online access to many services from home, made possible by the city's digitalization strategy, DIN.DIGITAL.
Mayor Michaela Eislöffel is pleased with the good ranking, stating that Dinslaken has taken important steps towards becoming a modern, digital city. The economic development department of Dinslaken accompanies the broadband expansion and will continue to monitor further expansion activities.
The city's progress in the Smart City Ranking is noteworthy, as it has managed to consolidate its 94th ranking despite increased competition from other cities expanding their digitalization efforts. Cities like Bamberg have been highlighted for making large jumps forward in digitalization efforts, implying comparable rises in smart city rankings.
