The DoCaption EN848, ENCO's latest closed-caption encoder, is now available for purchase. This new product was unveiled during the 2024 NAB Show New York held on October 9 and 10 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.
The EN848 has been designed with a focus on improving the user experience for broadcasters. It is purpose-built to natively pair with ENCO's enCaption system, offering a simplified captioning workflow. This native pairing may also streamline technical support for broadcasters.
The EN848's core function is to reliably insert closed captions from any downstream source in compliance with global captioning standards. It conforms to a broad range of closed-captioning specifications, including CEA-608/CEA-708 and Teletext/OP47 ancillary data.
One of the significant developments for the EN848 is its dual connectivity options. Broadcasters can deploy redundant captioning workflows with immediate failover from cloud to on-prem if the network temporarily goes dark. This feature ensures compliance and reliability, with the added benefit of additional features.
The EN848 removes the need for a third-party device for broadcasters, allowing them to connect with ENCO partner VITAC for cloud-based captioning services. Alternatively, broadcasters can deploy the system over their IP network, connecting with enCaption for cloud-based captioning services.
The EN848's design aims to simplify the captioning workflow for broadcasters. It pairs the speed and accuracy of enCaption's automatic conversion with a reliable 1RU solution. This means broadcasters can now rely on a single source of support for their captioning needs.
