Conservative Opposing DEI Settles Libel Claim against Meta Corporation
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has announced a collaboration with conservative social media personality Robby Starbuck to address ideological and political bias in its AI systems. The collaboration comes in the wake of a defamation lawsuit filed by Starbuck against Meta in April.
According to the lawsuit, a Meta chatbot, Meta AI, had allegedly responded to queries with inaccurate information, falsely accusing Starbuck of being a "White nationalist." The lawsuit centered on political bias and artificial intelligence-driven misinformation.
In a statement, Meta acknowledged the vulnerability of its large language models to bias and expressed its goal to remove bias from its AI models. The company aims to ensure that its AI can understand and articulate both sides of a contentious issue, presenting more neutral political perspectives.
As part of the settlement, Starbuck will serve as a consultant to Meta, collaborating with its Product Policy team. He will focus on ensuring the highest quality training materials are used and will work to make Meta's chatbots less politically charged, aiming to reduce what Meta describes as "woke" bias.
Starbuck, who is pleased with the resolution of the lawsuit, believes it will result in ethical AI across the industry. He looks forward to continuing his engagement with Meta as a voice for conservatives to ensure fair treatment by AI.
The collaboration aims to reduce the risk of artificial intelligence "hallucinations" and ensure that the company's chatbots present more neutral political perspectives. Starbuck expresses optimism that their collaboration will set an example for the entire industry in ensuring fairness.
Meta has made strides to improve the accuracy of Meta AI and mitigate ideological and political bias as a result of this lawsuit. The company hopes that the improvements made to AI training at Meta could become an industry standard.
Conservative social media personality Robby Starbuck and Meta have agreed to settle a defamation lawsuit. Both parties have stated that they are satisfied with the terms of the settlement. Meta and Starbuck will work collaboratively in the coming months to continue addressing issues of ideological and political bias and minimizing the risk of "hallucinations" in response to user queries.
