Construction Boss Convicted for Wage Theft and Aiding Illegal Residence
A construction company boss from Landkreis Landshut has been convicted by the Landshut Regional Court for wage theft and aiding illegal residence. The case was initially flagged during a police traffic stop and later investigated by the Financial Control Black Work of the Main Customs Office Landshut.
The 47-year-old managing director, a South-East European himself, withheld wages totaling over €28,215 from nine employees. This sum included contributions to health, pension, long-term care, and unemployment insurance. Additionally, he employed three workers without the required residence permits, facilitating their illegal stay in Germany. In a separate incident, he hired four South-East European workers for a personal construction project without registering them with the social security office or paying the corresponding contributions for a period of ten months.
The court sentenced the convicted person to eight months imprisonment, suspended on probation.
The convicted person's actions not only resulted in financial loss for the employees but also exploited vulnerable workers and undermined the legal employment system. The court's sentence sends a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
