High Graphics Card Prices Persist in 2025 Amid Shortages and Strong Demand

In the year 2025, the market for graphics cards remains at a premium, with prices continuing to soar and shortages persisting. This situation is due to a combination of factors, including supply chain issues, tariffs, and strong demand.

The launch of new high-end GPUs, such as the Nvidia RTX 5090/5080 series and AMD RX 9070 series, has not alleviated the price surge. These cards, along with many others, remain expensive or hard to find. Older models are also mostly out of stock, which sustains demand and pricing pressures on available products.

Economic factors like tariffs and supply chain issues continue to affect costs. Market analysts and insiders suggest that GPU manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD have little incentive to lower prices since consumers are willing to pay current high rates. This has contributed to prices remaining elevated throughout 2025.

Despite the high prices, there are a few standout graphics cards in the market. The Intel Arc B580, for instance, is a fantastic graphics card at its intended price range, offering 12GB of VRAM, making it a shockingly good option for future-proofing your gaming PC.

However, other graphics cards have struggled to meet expectations. The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, for example, struggles against some of the most demanding games and its value is even worse considering the pricing. The RTX 5070 Ti, originally priced at $750, shot up to over $1,000 shortly after launch and is now back down to a more reasonable price of $800, but still falls short of the RTX 4090.

The AMD RX 9070 XT offers performance between the 7900 XT and 7900 XTX, and with overclocking, can even exceed the RTX 5080. However, it's overpriced and hasn't been available at MSRP since launch. The RX 7700 XT is worse than the RX 9070, but it's one of the few that can still be bought at a semi-reasonable price for those on a tighter budget.

The RTX 5050 is not worth buying due to slower GDDR6 memory, while the RTX 5070 was more like an RTX 4070 Super, with a few extra percent of raw performance and better DLSS and ray tracing support. The RTX 5060, with just 8GB VRAM and a mild uplift over the previous generation, has not received the warm reception many expected.

The RTX 4090 is currently the second fastest graphics card, but its price has gone up significantly, often selling for over $3,000. The RTX 4070 Ti Super serves up 16GB of memory and an increase in CUDA cores, but it's over $1,000 and isn't worth considering. The RTX 5060 Ti comes in two variants: one with 8GB of VRAM and one with 16GB. The 16GB version is more recommended due to the extra video memory.

The AMD RX 9070 isn't as strong a performer or as good a value as the 9070 XT, but it's still a great graphics card in 2025. Its performance is better than the 5070 it was targeted against, and not far off catching the 5070 Ti. The RX 7900 XTX is still AMD's fastest graphics card, but its near $1,000 price makes it hard to recommend.

The RTX 4080 Super is performance-wise practically the same as the RTX 4080, but it's $200 cheaper by default. However, in 2025, its price is also inflated and stock is non-existent. The RTX 4060 may not earn the spot of a fan favourite, but it's been affordable enough to still climb the ranks over time. However, in 2025, it's no longer worth its weight in anything.

Overall, prices are not expected to drop noticeably in the near term during 2025, and any potential decreases would depend on resolution of supply shortages, easing of tariffs, or significant shifts in demand—all unlikely before late 2025 or beyond based on current data.
