Current status and accessibility of GPUs (Q3 2025): What are the present prices for GPUs?
In the ever-evolving world of technology, the graphics card market in 2025 continues to grapple with high prices and limited availability, a situation largely due to ongoing supply constraints, external cost pressures, and increased demand for new GPU generations.
The RX 7700 XT, priced at $349, may not match up to the performance of the RX 9070 XT, but it remains a viable option for those on a tighter budget. On the other hand, the RX 9070 XTX, AMD's fastest graphics card to date, is still worth considering if it can be found for $800 or less. However, one should not expect much in ray-traced games from this powerhouse.
Nvidia's RTX 5060, a highly anticipated GPU, did not receive the warm reception many expected, while the RTX 5080, launched at $1,000, is hard to find at that price. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070, initially priced at $750 and $550 respectively, saw significant price hikes post-launch.
The RTX 4060 Ti, available in two variants - 8GB and 16GB - is virtually the same as the 8GB model but adds an extra $100 to the recommended list price and packs twice as much video memory. However, much like the rest of the RTX 40-series, this card is now painfully overpriced and should be avoided. The RTX 4060, while affordable in the past, is no longer worth its weight in 2025.
The RTX 4070 Super, RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4080 Super, and RTX 4090 are all priced exorbitantly, with stock scarcity adding to their unattractiveness. The RTX 5090, the most powerful graphics card currently made, offers only a 30% performance boost over the last-generation 4090.
In contrast, Intel's Arc B580, priced appropriately, offers 12GB of VRAM and is a fantastic graphics card within its intended price range. AMD's RX 9070 XT, offering performance between the 7900 XT and 7900 XTX, is a great GPU that can even exceed the RTX 5080 with overclocking.
Despite the market's challenges, the demand for graphics cards continues to grow due to increasing demand from gaming, e-sports, AI, and high-performance computing applications. This sustained high demand supports the continued high prices at least in the near-to-mid term.
While availability is gradually improving, prices remain elevated in the third quarter of 2025, and no clear timeline for a full return to MSRP has been indicated. Prices may stabilize or slowly improve as supply improves, but a complete normalization within 2025 is unlikely given the ongoing supply constraints and external cost pressures.
