Delivery time for Onvo L90 devices has been extended to 8-10 weeks; more than 70% of customers choose the Backend-as-a-Service plan
The much-anticipated Onvo L90, one of the few models under Nio Inc's umbrella to face production shortages in recent years, is currently experiencing delivery delays due to battery supply shortages and a rapid surge in order volume.
Since its launch on July 31, 2025, the delivery lead times for the Onvo L90 have extended from an initial 4–5 weeks to now about 8–10 weeks. Despite the factory operating at full capacity with overtime shifts, the delays persist.
Key issues affecting production and delivery include battery supply constraints, a rapid surge in orders, and supply chain and logistics challenges. Onvo is mainly sourcing batteries from CATL and CALB, with a recent shortage particularly impacting the 85 kWh battery packs for the L90. CATL plans to start supplying more 85 kWh packs in September to alleviate shortages.
The L90 saw unexpectedly high demand immediately following launch, which outpaced the production ramp-up despite prior preparations. Onvo has coordinated closely with suppliers and logistics partners but still faces bottlenecks in delivering the high volume of orders quickly.
To mitigate customer dissatisfaction from the delays, Onvo has implemented an “L90 Waiting Points” programme that awards customers 500 points per day if their delivery wait exceeds 28 days after order lock-in. The company also pledged compensation if wait times exceed four weeks, aiming to maintain customer trust.
Despite these challenges, Onvo has delivered over 4,000 units within 10 days of launch, making the L90 one of the best-selling large SUVs in China by early August 2025. The factory’s full-capacity operation and planned additional battery supply are intended to improve output and reduce waiting times moving forward.
