Development of Charging Stations Progresses in Bergisch Gladbach

Bergisch Gladbach Accelerates Public Charging Infrastructure Expansion

In a significant move towards a greener future, the city of Bergisch Gladbach is accelerating the expansion of its public charging infrastructure. This development, which is gaining significant momentum, is a testament to the city's commitment to sustainable mobility.

The latest demand analysis for public charging infrastructure, updated in 2025, reflects current developments and the already completed expansion. The focus of this expansion is now on supplying inner-city residential areas with charging infrastructure, as own parking and charging options are often lacking.

Currently, around 80 public charging points at charging stations are already in operation throughout the city. These charging points cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles, a number that is expected to double in the coming weeks.

The city administration is playing a crucial role in this expansion, allocating necessary traffic and parking areas for public charging infrastructure. However, it's important to note that the city only allocates areas for public charging infrastructure where there are still unmet needs, as calculated in 2023 by the EcoLibro office in Troisdorf.

Private operators such as BELKAW, Wirelane, Hochtief Ladepartner, E-Hub Solutions, and Qwello Germany are driving this expansion on a commercial basis. The city administration is also in contact with companies that have been awarded contracts by the federal government to realize two fast charging stations in the city area as part of the Germany network.

Mayor Frank Stein expressed his satisfaction with the city's pioneering role in NRW through the consistent expansion of charging infrastructure. This positive development was only possible because the administration had already staffed the topic of charging infrastructure management early on.

For those interested, an up-to-date overview of the charging points currently in operation and in concrete implementation is available on the city's website. Future plans involve densifying public fast charging infrastructure. Further locations for public charging infrastructure are under review.

This expansion is a significant step towards making Bergisch Gladbach a more sustainable city, and it's clear that the city is committed to making electric mobility a viable and convenient option for its residents.
