Dr. Dre Upgrades His Recording Studio: Just an SSL Audio Equipment Now

In a significant move for the music production industry, Dr. Dre has upgraded the main room at his Aftermath Entertainment studio facility in Los Angeles with a 96-input Solid State Logic Duality Fuse console. This state-of-the-art equipment is set to revolutionise the studio's workflows, providing a solution to the maintenance issues of older analog consoles while offering a new level of depth in sound quality.

The Duality Fuse, renowned for its ergonomic design and superior sonic results, is a valuable asset in the studio's everyday workflows. Quentin "Q" Gilkey, the head engineer at Aftermath Entertainment, has worked with Dr. Dre and many artists on the label's roster, including Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson.Paak, The Game, and Earl Sweatshirt. Gilkey notes that the Total Recall feature of the Duality Fuse, which allows for fast recall of previous settings, was a major influence in Dr. Dre's decision to purchase the console.

The Duality Fuse also offers versatility, capable of handling a wide range of audio applications from music production to live sound and broadcast. Its ability to integrate seamlessly with a variety of outboard gear and studio equipment is a significant advantage, allowing for a customised setup that meets specific studio needs.

Simultaneous work by multiple people on the console's settings was another significant factor in Dr. Dre's choice of the Duality Fuse. The console's features, such as Total Recall and the ability for multiple people to work simultaneously, make it a valuable tool in the studio environment.

The sound quality of the Duality Fuse, particularly the depth achieved during mixing, was the biggest factor for Dr. Dre in choosing the console. Gilkey further emphasises this, stating that the Duality Fuse offers a new level of depth in sound quality compared to mixing in-the-box. The retention of analog sound without the maintenance issues that were once a hindrance in the studio is also a significant benefit.

Dr. Dre, a multi-Grammy Award-winning artist, producer, record executive, and entrepreneur, has owned or worked on every model of large format SSL analogue music console since the E series. His influential debut solo album, 1992's The Chronic, introduced G-Funk to the world and defined West Coast hip-hop. The Duality Fuse installation marks another milestone in Dr. Dre's commitment to musical innovation and quality.

Aftermath Entertainment, Dr. Dre's studio facility in Los Angeles, has been a hub for groundbreaking music for many years. With the installation of the Solid State Logic Duality Fuse console, the studio is poised to continue its legacy of producing high-quality music.
