Dresden, Germany - Dresden's public transport operator, DVB, is taking a significant step towards modernizing and improving public transport in the city. The operator is introducing a new service on bus lines 68 and 81 that will display a countdown to the bus's departure time on electronic signs at end stops.

This groundbreaking service is made possible by the latest on-board computers found in electric buses, which are being used for this trial service. The federal and state governments are supporting the new service, covering 75% of the cost, while DVB is funding the remaining 25%. The total cost of the hardware and software required for this service is approximately 2 million euros.

The new service aims to provide real-time information about bus arrivals at all stops, addressing passengers' questions about bus arrival times at certain stops. It is also intended to improve the efficiency and predictability of bus travel for passengers, enhancing the overall efficiency and predictability of bus travel in Dresden.

Initially, the new service will be implemented on bus lines 68 and 81 and will be available on all electric buses operating on these lines. The service will also be extended to stops where electronic signs are currently not available.

This is the first of its kind in Dresden, and DVB hopes that the trial will be successful, paving the way for the implementation of similar services on other bus lines in the future.
