E-Mobility Events Showcase Charging Tech, Partnerships, but Costs Remain a Hurdle

Energy prices have soared, making e-mobility costs uncertain and potentially deterring drivers. Meanwhile, industry events like the Intercharge Network Conference (ICNC) and the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA) have displayed advancements in charging technology and partnerships.

At the ICNC, manufacturers emphasized reliability. Evailable's predictive maintenance and Monta's error analysis assistant were showcased. Bidirectional charging, or Vehicle-to-Grid technology, was demonstrated by BMW, Mercedes, and Elli. Volkswagen subsidiary Elli and charging infrastructure provider CUBOS announced a bidirectional charging pilot integrated with home solar systems at IAA 2025.

Charging point operators are utilizing battery storage systems to meet high demand, taking advantage of decreasing battery prices. Industry insiders anticipate more collaborations between car manufacturers, charging station providers, and energy suppliers at the IAA. Despite technical readiness, bidirectional charging's economic appeal for German end customers is currently constrained due to additional costs and electricity ancillary costs.

The ICNC and IAA events have exhibited progress in e-mobility technology and partnerships. However, economic viability for end customers remains a hurdle. Further announcements and advancements are expected at future events.
