EBay introduces a submission service for high-value trading cards to be listed for auction.

eBay Expands Horizons with Trading Card Submission Service

Gearing up for collector enthusiasts, eBay debuts a brand new trading card submission service for the eBay Vault. This announcement was made on Monday, showcasing eBay's ongoing investment in the booming collectibles market.

The service allows collectors to effortlessly send their eligible cards, priced $250 or more, to the eBay Vault, an expansive, 31,000-square-foot facility. The service extends eligibility for the vault to cards not obtained from eBay, and encompasses graded autograph, relic, and patch cards too.

Through this service, users can send their items via mail or in-person for authentication and long-term secure storage after providing necessary submission information. As a surprise bonus, eBay has announced there will be no submission fees for 2023!

eBay's Bold Bet on Collectibles

eBay's trading card submission service is another testament to the company's commitment to the collectibles sector. With high expectations for the eBay Vault to store up to $3 billion in assets in the coming years, this service is expected to make waves in the market.

Trading cards are increasingly seen as an alternative asset class, with the ability to buy, list, sell, and transfer ownership instantly crucial for collectors. By allowing collectors to easily send individual cards or entire collections to the eBay Vault, collectors can benefit from specialist long-term storage, expert third-party authentication, and streamlined transactions – eliminating the need for physical shipping and reducing risk.

eBay's Future Endeavors

In its announcement, eBay also highlighted upcoming collectors events they're engaging in, like The National Sports Collectors Convention in July, and Gen Con in August. Last month, they introduced a "Collectors Camp" event series, where fans can learn tips from experts, and just two years ago, they introduced a series of in-person authentication events in major cities.

eBay has been on a roll, investing in various aspects of the second-hand market and authentication services. Last month, they announced they'd begin authenticating streetwear brands, debuted their "Certified by Brand" program, teamed up with Prova Group for sports memorabilia authentication, and even purchased Sneaker Con Digital's sneaker authentication division. In August 2020, they even agreed to buy TCGplayer, a tech company specializing in collectibles for approximately $295 million – it's safe to say eBay isn't backing down!
