Electric Mahindra BE 6 circuits in London E-Prix, marking it as the first Indian electric Sports Utility Vehicle to take part.
Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian automotive giant, has made its mark on the international electric vehicle (EV) scene with the showcasing of its up-and-coming electric SUV, the BE 6, at the 2025 London E-Prix [1][2][3].
The BE 6, India's first SUV to grace the London Formula E track, was displayed at this prestigious event, signalling Mahindra's global aspirations to establish itself as a key player in the international EV market. By bringing the BE 6 to such a prominent international event, Mahindra is demonstrating its intent to gain worldwide visibility and position the BE 6 as a competitive, high-performance electric vehicle with authentic real-world capabilities.
The event highlighted Mahindra’s emphasis on "performance" and "visibility," underlining a strategic move to showcase the BE 6’s advanced features such as high-speed stability, quick acceleration, and extensive real-world range. Although the BE 6 was not officially the Formula E safety car, its use on the track in stock production form—with no mechanical modifications—served as a credible demonstration of its capabilities, potentially positioning it as a future contender for roles such as the event’s safety car or other international electric mobility applications [1].
This initiative reflects Mahindra’s broader ambition to be recognised on a world stage beyond the Indian market, leveraging global events to establish the brand as a manufacturer of sophisticated electric vehicles that can meet rigorous performance and reliability standards demanded by international audiences.
The BE 6 is available with two battery pack choices: a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh. The 79 kWh battery pack variant produces 285 bhp and offers a range of 682 km, while the 59 kWh variant is capable of achieving a distance of up to 535 km and produces a maximum output of 230 bhp [1]. The Mahindra BE 6 comes with a rear-wheel drive setup.
The BE 6 is based on skateboard architecture designed for born electric vehicles, ensuring a compact and efficient design. Mahindra’s Chief Design Officer, Pratap Bose, shared his excitement about the BE 6 on a social media platform, further fuelling anticipation for this innovative electric vehicle [2].
In addition to the BE 6, Mahindra is also working on other EV models. An upcoming model, the Mahindra e20 NXT, is set to feature a 15 kWh battery and a range of 140 km. The company is also planning to launch the Mahindra BE 07 with an 80 kWh battery and a range of 450 km [1].
The BE 6's display at the London E-Prix positions Mahindra as a serious player in the international market, allowing enthusiasts to see its dynamic potential. With the BE 6 priced between ₹19.40 lakh and ₹27.65 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variants or packs, Mahindra is making a strong statement in the global EV market. The estimated price of the BE 6 is ₹ 18.90 Lakhs [1]. This strategic move could potentially position Mahindra as a key player in the global EV market, offering high-performance, reliable, and efficient electric vehicles.
