Electric motorhome from Dethleffs, named e.home Eco, equipped with popcorn maker for on-the-go snacking.
In an innovative leap for the caravanning industry, Dethleffs, the oldest German manufacturer of caravans, has unveiled its latest creation – the e.home Eco study. This partially integrated travel mobile is making waves at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon as the only electric premier vehicle on display.
The e.home Eco study is built on a Ford E-Transit from the 2023 model year, marking a significant step towards sustainable and electric travel. Dethleffs is focusing on the use of eco-friendly materials in construction and furniture production, with the popcorn panels sourced from corn not suitable for human consumption, typically used for adhesives and bio-based plastics.
The interior heating, ventilation, and air conditioning are handled by a heat pump, ensuring energy efficiency. Cooking is done electrically on induction cooktops, and the solar system with solar cells on the roof provides 1700 watts of nominal power, contributing to the mobile's climate-friendly operation.
Dethleffs goes beyond the electric drive with its "Sustainable Travel Mobile" project, focusing on sustainable manufacturing. The company is reducing its model ranges from 15 to 3, and materials such as pure sheep wool fabric for interior upholstery, natural fiber fabric sandwich panels for the exterior, foam made from recycled PET bottles, and popcorn for table and kitchen panels are being used.
The e.home Eco study currently weighs 3425 kilograms, but with the upcoming EU directive, B-license holders can increase the vehicle limit to 4.25 tons by 2028, aiming to avoid failure due to weight limits.
While the e.home Eco study is not the first electric mobility project by Dethleffs, it is intended to be the one that enters series production, with a range of around 400 kilometers expected by 2028. However, detailed timelines for specific electric caravan models are not yet available.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is best to consult Dethleffs' official announcements or contact them directly for the latest updates on their product roadmap and any planned releases.
The e.home Eco study, a pioneering creation by Dethleffs, is not only focusing on electric travel but also incorporating technology for energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. As part of their sustainable manufacturing initiatives, they are also embracing sports-derived eco-friendly materials for interior upholstery and exterior panels.
