Electric Vehicle Debut: Polestar 3, the sibling to Volvo's EX90, sets a new standard for distance on a singular electric charge, shattering previous records.

The Polestar 3, unveiled as Polestar's second electric vehicle in October 2022, has made headlines yet again. This time, it's for setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric SUV on a single charge.

The record-breaking feat took place in Sweden, where the Polestar 3 covered an impressive distance of 1,019.4 kilometers (633.6 miles). However, it's important to note that this distance is not considered a useful indicator of what an average owner can expect in terms of range.

Initially, the Polestar 3 was available with a 111kWh battery, delivering 483bhp and a range of up to 379 miles. But things have changed. Polestar later introduced a Long Range '3' model with the same battery capacity, but offering slightly less power (295bhp). This model claims a range of 435 miles, which was later revised to a WLTP range of 435 miles.

In a move to make the Polestar 3 more accessible, a cheaper Long-range Single motor version has been introduced. Equipped with a single rear motor, this variant delivers 295bhp and boasts a range of 435 miles on a single charge—a range that was more than Polestar initially anticipated. This version also comes with a lower price point, starting at £79,900.

Car manufacturers have been conducting high-mileage tests on electric vehicles for a long time, just as they have with Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars. These tests provide valuable insights into the real-world performance and efficiency of the vehicles.

Amidst these developments, Polestar is facing challenges. The company, which was part of the Volvo Group, has reported sales and losses, with Volvo exiting Polestar. Despite these challenges, the Polestar 3 continues to push boundaries in the electric vehicle market.

The Polestar 3 shares underpinnings with the Volvo EX90, and it's clear that both companies are committed to advancing electric vehicle technology. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Polestar fares in the coming years.
