New MG4 EV with Semi-Solid-State Battery Set for Global Launch in Late 2025

The MG4, a popular electric vehicle (EV), is set to undergo an exciting upgrade with the introduction of a semi-solid-state battery. This development makes the MG4 the first mass-produced EV to feature this advanced battery technology, promising improvements in range and performance over standard lithium iron phosphate batteries.

The new variant of the MG4 will retain a 120 kW (161 hp) single front-mounted motor. The vehicle's dimensions remain unchanged, with a length of 4,395 mm, a width of 1,842 mm, and a height of 1,551 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

SAIC Motor opened pre-orders for the updated MG4 earlier this month, with prices starting at 73,800 yuan ($10,000). The interior of the MG4 is expected to feature a 15.6-inch floating infotainment display and smart technology.

The semi-solid-state battery for the MG4 is produced by Suzhou Qingtao Power Technology, a leader in solid-state EV battery production. The vehicle will offer two battery pack options: 42.8 kWh and 53.9 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 437 km (272 miles) and 530 km (330 miles) respectively.

The MG4 EV originally launched in 2023 and this update elevates it with refined styling, bigger footprint, and tech upgrades. The vehicle is equipped with 360-degree cameras, front and rear parking radars, and a tinted roof and privacy glass.

Deliveries for the semi-solid-state MG4 are expected by the end of 2025. Pricing for this version will be announced in September. The MG4's distinctive front badging, along with four trims - Comfort, Ease, Freedom, and Smart - will provide buyers with a range of options to choose from.

The global launch of the semi-solid-state battery equipped MG4 EV is eagerly anticipated, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of electric vehicles.

  1. The launch of the MG4 EV in late 2025 will bring a revolution in the automotive industry, as it will be the first mass-produced electric vehicle to feature a semi-solid-state battery.
  2. The introduction of the semi-solid-state battery in the MG4 EV is expected to improve the vehicle's range and performance compared to standard lithium iron phosphate batteries.
  3. The MG4 EV's next version will also incorporate technology and lifestyle enhancements, including a 15.6-inch floating infotainment display and smart features, making it a standout in the transportation sector.
