Emirates SkyCargo & Astral Aviation Team Up to Boost African Trade
Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation have inked a significant deal to boost African trade. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at Air Cargo Africa, will see the two airlines collaborate to expand cargo interline options and block space agreements. Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, and Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation, sealed the pact.
The partnership aims to enhance connectivity and trade for African businesses. Both airlines specialise in transporting sensitive cargo, such as fresh produce and lifesaving pharmaceuticals, which are crucial exports for African markets. This collaboration supports the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), aiming to increase Africa's global exports by 32% by 2035.
Emirates SkyCargo, with its global reach of over 145 destinations, will pair with Astral Aviation's extensive African network of 50 destinations. Badr Abbas highlighted the vast potential of Africa, noting that 11 of the world's fastest-growing economies are located on the continent. These include countries like Ethiopia, Rwanda, Ghana, and Nigeria, among others. The collaboration aligns with the growing economic ties between the UAE and Africa, further bolstered by agreements like the UAE-Kenya Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The partnership between Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation seeks to strengthen cargo connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods to and from Africa. By expanding cargo interline options and block space agreements, the airlines aim to improve trade for African businesses and support the continent's economic growth.
