Engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Canada secures a 15-year deal with Singapore Airlines for auxiliary power units (APUs)

Engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Canada agrees to a 15-year contract for auxiliary power unit (APU) services with Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines has announced a significant maintenance agreement with Pratt & Whitney Canada, the manufacturer of the auxiliary power units (APUs) used in its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. The agreement, which lasts for 15 years, covers the upkeep of 34 APS5000 units.

The APS5000 is an industry-first all-electric APU, developed exclusively for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It is known for being the quietest and lowest-emission APUs in its class, producing 450kVA of electrical power at sea level and designed to operate at altitudes up to 43,100 feet.

The agreement aims to ensure the APUs continue to meet the manufacturer's original equipment standards, contributing to Singapore Airlines' strong operational reliability. The improved operational reliability of the APS5000, in turn, supports Singapore Airlines in maintaining its high levels of dispatch reliability.

Pratt & Whitney Canada's maintenance programmes for its APU portfolio offer flexibility, predictable cost structures, and aim to extend maintenance intervals. This will help Singapore Airlines focus on providing an excellent passenger experience, while the APS5000's technology underpins the efficiency of modern long-haul fleets.

Over 1,400 APS5000 units have been produced, with the global fleet accumulating nearly 16 million flight hours. The APS5000's design offers improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and enhanced maintainability.

This contract is a reinforcement of Pratt & Whitney Canada's commitment to supporting customers with advanced and reliable APU technology. The agreement is a strategic move for both parties, with Singapore Airlines benefiting from tailored maintenance solutions for the APS5000 units, and Pratt & Whitney Canada continuing to showcase its industry-leading APU technology.
