Enhancements made to Lingen's mobile network by Telekom
In a significant move to enhance mobile connectivity, Deutsche Telekom is embarking on a three-year plan to expand and modernize its mobile network in the Emsland region.
- 5G Network Rollout: The telecommunications giant is committed to extending 5G coverage across Emsland, aiming to provide faster and more reliable mobile internet services to both urban and rural areas.
- Upgrade of Existing Infrastructure: Existing 4G LTE sites will be upgraded to support enhanced data speeds and network capacity, improving the overall user experience.
- New Base Stations: To increase coverage and reduce network congestion, Telekom plans to install new base stations in underserved or weak-signal areas within Emsland.
- Focus on Rural Connectivity: Recognizing connectivity gaps in rural communities, the expansion will target better mobile network accessibility for remote locations and smaller towns.
- Energy Efficient and Future-Proof Technology: The deployment will include state-of-the-art, energy-efficient hardware designed to support future technological advancements.
This comprehensive expansion is part of Deutsche Telekom’s broader strategy to strengthen its nationwide mobile network and support digital transformation in all parts of Germany, including Emsland.
In Lingen (Ems), the mobile network sites serve to provide coverage along the Emden-Münster railway line. The expansion has resulted in a significant improvement in mobile coverage, with 96 percent of the district now covered, and the number of households with fast mobile coverage increasing to 99 percent. Indoor reception in Lingen (Ems) has also seen an improvement.
Stefanie Halle, spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom, stated that the bandwidth demand is constantly increasing. To address this, an additional 20 sites are planned to be expanded with LTE or 5G, and 16 more sites are planned to be added in the next three years.
The mobile network sites in the district support the emergency call technology Advanced Mobile Location (AML) and the warning system Cell Broadcast. Information about the availability of mobile networks in a specific area can be found at www.telekom.de/netzausbau.
It's worth noting that Deutsche Telekom AG has been recognised as having the best mobile network in Germany, as confirmed by specialist magazines Chip, connect, ComputerBild, and Imtest. This expansion in Emsland is a response to the increasing bandwidth demand and a testament to Deutsche Telekom's commitment to delivering high-quality mobile services to its customers.
