Epic Games Store Finally Adds Preloading for PC Games

The Epic Games Store, introduced by Epic Games, has added a new feature: preloading for PC pre-purchased games. This addition, previously unavailable, allows players to download games ahead of their release date, a feature long available on rival platform Steam.

Preloading enables players to start gaming as soon as a title launches, rather than waiting for the download to complete. The Epic Games Store will now offer this service up to five days before release, using an encrypted build.

The announcement comes as Epic Games Store CEO Tim Sweeney and general manager Steve Allison acknowledged the need to improve the platform's features. While the Epic Games Store has attracted users through weekly free game giveaways, it has lacked some standard features found on Steam, such as preloading.

Preloading is considered a significant upgrade for the Epic Games Store, bringing it more in line with industry standards. Players can now enjoy a smoother gaming experience, with less waiting time on release days.

The Epic Games Store has added preloading for PC pre-purchased games, a feature previously unavailable. This improvement allows players to start gaming immediately upon release. The next sales week on the Epic Games Store typically starts on Thursday, but for exact dates, check the Epic Games Store website or announcements.
