The Mauritius Mediathek, a cultural hub in Wiesbaden, is not just a library but a vibrant centre for learning, creativity, and entertainment. Here's a rundown of the services it offers, especially for the younger generation.
Library Opening Hours
The library's regular opening hours are as follows:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Wednesdays and Fridays: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Saturdays: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
These hours are subject to change, and the current schedule can be found as of July 2025.
Youth Gaming/Media Studio
Located centrally within the Mauritius Mediathek, the Wiesbaden Media Center caters to young people aged 12 to 26 from Wiesbaden. This space supports creative media projects, including video, photo, and audio work, with professional equipment and workshops available. The studio can be booked for use on Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
While not explicitly a "gaming program" in the traditional sense, this space provides an environment for digital creativity and media exploration.
Special Learning Nights
For students aged 16 and older, there are special learning nights available outside the normal library hours. These sessions run from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, providing a quiet space with brain food and free Wi-Fi for extended study sessions.
Self-Service Facilities
The Mauritius Mediathek is equipped with a modern RFID system, allowing patrons to borrow, renew, or return their materials themselves. There are seven self-service kiosks for borrowing and renewal, and a self-return zone at the entrance for returns.
Throughout the three floors of the building, you'll find numerous workstations with free internet access. Two information monitors provide updates on the latest city and library news, while a digital signage display offers additional information on-site.
Smart Multimedia Locker and Wi-Fi
Library card holders can borrow laptops for use within the Mauritius Mediathek via a smart multimedia locker. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, making it an ideal spot for remote work or study.
External Return Zone
An external return zone on Hochstättenstraße allows books and other materials to be returned at any time, providing added convenience for patrons.
With its extended services, creative spaces, and self-service facilities, the Mauritius Mediathek is more than just a library—it's a dynamic hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement.
