EU Commission Debuts New Strategy to Bolster Online Presence Across Union Territories

In a strategic move aimed at unifying and strengthening the two brands within the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group, MediaMarkt is taking over Saturn stores across Germany. This decision is part of CECONOMY AG's commitment to simplifying life in the digital world and maintaining leadership in the European consumer electronics retail sector.

The consolidation of MediaMarkt and Saturn stores is designed to enable both brands to work more closely together, focusing on a common mission: making technology more accessible and offering a better customer experience. By consolidating their efforts, the brands can concentrate on what matters most—the consumer—and realize significant advantages from operational synergy and brand alignment.

As part of this strategic direction, both MediaMarkt and Saturn will continue to operate under the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group but with a much tighter integration. This aims to enhance customer benefits and streamline the retail experience across both brand channels. The group intends to leverage their combined strengths in consumer electronics retail while also expanding innovative service offerings such as trade-in and refurbishment desks within stores. These initiatives are aligned with broader industry trends toward sustainability and circular economy principles, evidenced by pilot programs integrating recommerce and refurbishment services.

Despite the changes, customers can expect partly the same products with similar offers at both Saturn and MediaMarkt stores. The bonus program remains the same at both retailers, ensuring continuity for loyal customers. The disappearance of Saturn stores and the appearance of MediaMarkt stores may be confusing to some, but it is important to note that both brands are part of the same group, MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group GmbH.

As of the beginning of 2025, 15 Saturn stores have already been replaced by Media Markt stores in various cities, including Cologne, Aachen, Neuss, and Hilden. With this transition, Media Markt now has over 330 stores in the country, making it one of the most popular electronics stores nationwide. Saturn currently has 87 stores left in the country, with more to be taken over by Media Markt in the future.

The company plans to invest in further development and modernization, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience for customers. This consolidation and close brand collaboration are part of a broader trend in retail where companies adapt more effectively to changing consumer behaviors and market dynamics.

In summary, the takeover of Saturn stores by MediaMarkt in Germany is a strategic move aimed at creating a unified, stronger retail presence. Both brands will collaborate closely, aiming to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. Future plans include innovative services like in-store trade-in and refurbishment desks to support sustainability and digital convenience. As the retail landscape continues to evolve, the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group remains committed to staying at the forefront of the consumer electronics retail sector.
