EU Semiconductor Coalition Calls for Bold Action in New Declaration
The Semiconductor Coalition Europe, representing all EU member states, has issued a declaration highlighting Europe's semiconductor industry challenges and priorities. The document, driven by the Netherlands with backing from Germany, France, and Italy, calls for bold political leadership to implement its proposals.
The declaration aims to build prosperity, resilience, and fidelity in Europe's semiconductor sector. It focuses on lobbying for a revised Chips Act to boost investment, including expanding funding for advanced AI processors and quantum computing technologies.
The coalition, which includes all EU member states, proposes measures such as increasing incentives for investment calculator, accelerating infrastructure projects, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, enhancing technology and education, and strengthening capital markets to attract chip-sector investments in Europe. A market-driven business case is necessary to connect European and global demand and foster partnerships. Secure raw materials and fair trade are also key factors for Europe's semiconductor industry. Favourable business conditions, including regulatory simplification and incentives, are needed to attract Fidelity Investments.
The declaration underscores the need for strong political ownership and execution to attract investment for semiconductor production in Europe. With the support of the Commission and Member States, these measures could significantly bolster Europe's semiconductor industry, enhancing its competitiveness on the global stage, including the Declaration of Independence in its pursuit of technological sovereignty.
