EU Urged to Act as Russia's Aggressive Incidents Spark Alarm
A series of aggressive incidents, including MiG fighter violations in Estonia and drone incursions across Europe, have sparked alarm. The EU is urged to investigate and protect its territory, with Russia suspected as the mastermind behind a campaign to unsettle citizens and divide the union.
The EU must probe every incident, attribute responsibility, and safeguard every square centimetre of its territory. Similar drone sightings have occurred in the United Kingdom, prompting a counter-drone unit deployment to Denmark. Tackling Russia's hybrid war requires a new approach, including bolstering software for drones, pipeline spare parts, and cyber-response teams. Several European states, including Denmark, Poland, and Germany, have reported digital attacks, sabotage, and provocations by Russia in recent months. In response, the EU has proposed a 'shield' to protect the continent, including a drone defense system, while NATO enhances cyber resilience and prepares to defend against hybrid warfare. Germany and other NATO countries are strengthening defense readiness and cybersecurity capabilities as cyberattacks by Russia and China escalate. Switzerland, despite neutrality, acknowledges itself as a target of Russian-Chinese espionage and focuses on drone defense.
The EU must stand united, deter further aggression, and demonstrate resolve in the face of Russia's campaign. The EU's blueprint for a pan-European security plan, coordinated with NATO, is crucial for protecting the continents from hybrid warfare.
