Evaluation: Taurus GX2 Firearm Assessment
The Taurus GX2, a new compact-size handgun, made its debut at the prestigious Gunsite Academy. This pistol, designed with a balance between carryability and shootability, is the latest addition to Taurus's arsenal. With an overall length of 6.13 inches, a height of 4.88 inches, and a weight of 21 ozs., unloaded, the GX2 is similar in size to the GX4. It's a recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger. The GX2 stands out for its modular fire-control chassis and striker-fired action. It was tested extensively at the Gunsite Academy and in formal accuracy and reliability testing, performing well in both instances. The pistol does not have a manual external safety, but it is available with a thumb safety. The slide and barrel assembly mimic the GX4's design, with upper and front bevels for concealed carry and deep slide serrations. The magazine, double-column/single-feed, allows for a small circumference at the top of the grip. The GX2's magazine capacity is 13 rounds. Taurus is offering an extended 15-round magazine as an accessory. The slide does not have a notch for an optic. The gun can be removed from its frame using an external takedown lever, a user-friendly feature. The grip module comes with eight available colours and a unique stippling pattern. The trigger has a take-up, hits a solid wall, breaks cleanly at 6 lbs., 4 ozs., and has a short and positive reset. The GX2 does not allow the slide to be retracted far enough to chamber a new round with the safety on. Priced to be affordable, the GX2 aligns with Taurus's mission to make 'protection accessible to every American.' The MSRP for the black-slide version of the GX2 is $310, making it $175 cheaper than the GX4 Carry. During testing, the GX2 alternated between an IWB PHLster Skeleton and an OWB UM Tactical Qualifier, indicating it is compatible with various holsters. This versatility adds to the GX2's appeal, making it a practical choice for a wide range of users. The Taurus GX2 was launched at the Gunsite Academy, demonstrating Taurus's confidence in the pistol. With its compact size, reliable performance, and affordable price point, the GX2 is poised to make a significant impact in the handgun market.
