Expanded Access to Wi-Fi: Heusenstamm Plans for Wide-reaching Digital Network
In a bid to enhance digital participation for all generations, the cities of Heusenstamm and Rembrücken are set to establish 40 free public Wi-Fi hotspots, as part of the "Digital Village Lindens" program.
Subscribing to the free newsletter on the city and district of Offenbach's website is a great way to ensure you never miss any news from Heusenstamm. The digital offers are a significant part of Heusenstamm's digital strategy, and the city council decided to implement the project in September 2023.
The project coordination is handled by the municipal IT department and the Digitalization department. The "Public Wi-Fi for Heusenstamm" project is financially supported by the state program "Digital Village Linde". Each hotspot can be funded with €1,500.
Through the digital participation initiative, users can find the digital access points under the network name "Hessen WLAN". These access points are already active at several locations, including the castle town hall, the gatehouse, the old linden tree, the swimming pool, the bus station, and the culture and sports centre Martinsee. Further locations, such as Frankfurter Straße, the train station, or the fire station in Heusenstamm, are in preparation.
The digital access points are protected by various filter mechanisms to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment. No personal data is stored, users remain invisible to each other, and content with youth-endangering or questionable content is blocked.
Heusenstamm's city mayor, Steffen Ball, emphasizes the importance of digital participation for all generations. By the end of the project, there will be a total of 40 hotspots at 18 locations in Heusenstamm and Rembrücken.
For those interested in staying updated on the progress of this initiative, it is recommended to subscribe to the newsletter and check their inbox or spam folder to confirm the subscription. The privacy policy on the website ensures that no spam is sent.
In addition, the interactive Wi-Fi map on the Heusenstamm city website (heusenstamm.de) offers an overview of all active and planned hotspots, making it easy for residents and visitors to find a digital access point when needed.
Other technology, such as the filter mechanisms, is implemented to ensure a safe and family-friendly environment at the public Wi-Fi hotspots. To financially support this project, the state program "Digital Village Linde" provides funding for each hotspot at €1,500.
