Xpeng G7 Mid-Size SUV Set to Launch in 2022

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng is set to release a new mid-size SUV, the G7, in 2022. The vehicle has generated significant interest after receiving 10,000 orders within minutes of its pre-sale opening in China.

The G7 boasts a sleek fastback design with a modern, aerodynamic silhouette. It is powered by an electric motor producing up to 218 kW (292 hp) and uses long-range LFP batteries that provide a driving range between 602 and 702 km (CLTC cycle). The SUV supports fast charging for convenience.

The interior of the G7 features a large LCD screen panel that occupies the entire dashboard, including the space in front of the front passenger seat. This is comparable to the one seen in the Byton M-Byte at the 2019 CES, although it's important to note that the Byton M-Byte was never produced due to the company's bankruptcy.

The G7 will be built on the Edward platform, designed for vehicles with a wheelbase between 2800 mm and 3100 mm, which is the same platform as the Xpeng P7. This platform is known for its advanced electric technologies that improve battery placement, weight distribution, and interior space utilization.

In terms of driving assistant systems, the G7 will likely be equipped with advanced autonomous driving aids similar to Xpeng's XPILOT systems. These systems typically integrate lidar sensors, high-precision maps, and AI-powered driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated parking.

The positioning of the G7 is intended to be higher than the P7 to compete directly with the Nio ES6. If Xpeng follows its naming tradition, the new car will likely be named G7, as G is for SUVs.

In addition, Xpeng X9 range-extender MPV parameters have been exposed, with a planned launch in Q4. The official unveiling of the G7 is scheduled for next year, with sales expected to start in 2022.
