Farmers in Meerut receive an Agritech Innovation Hub, equipped with AI and smart technology, for empowerment.
**Uttar Pradesh Agritech Innovation Hub Launched to Modernize Agriculture**
The Uttar Pradesh Agritech Innovation Hub, a strategic blend of modern technology and traditional agricultural practices, was officially launched on July 8, 2025, at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology (SVPUAT) in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The initiative is part of the Union Budget's larger plan to establish Centres of Excellence in agricultural technology across India.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Education and Skill Development Jayant Chaudhary jointly inaugurated the hub, which is backed by Rs 75 lakh worth of technical assistance from IIT Ropar's Cyber-Physical Systems Lab. IIT Ropar serves as the lead technological partner, offering expertise in AI, IoT, and cloud computing.
The hub is equipped with IoT-enabled sensors, smart irrigation systems, automation tools, and real-time data analytics platforms. These technologies are designed to enhance precision farming, promote sustainable agriculture, and reduce input costs while maximizing yields.
Key dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, IIT Ropar Director Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, and SVPUAT Vice Chancellor Dr. K.K. Singh, attended the event. An MoU was signed between IIT Ropar and SVPUAT to promote academic and research collaboration in agritech.
The initiative includes training workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions for farmers, organized in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). A technology demonstration session was held at the university's Model Smart Farm.
Several progressive farmers were felicitated for adopting sustainable and modern farming practices. Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary called the innovation hub a game-changer for rural India, while Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that the future of India lies in its villages and farmlands, and that technology must reach the grassroots to realize the vision of "Viksit Bharat."
Chaudhary emphasized the need to balance tradition with modern technology, ensuring accessibility for small and marginal farmers. Pradhan credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making technology a central pillar of agricultural reforms.
The event also featured an exhibition showcasing 20 agritech startups presenting solutions such as smart irrigation systems and AI-based crop monitoring. Chaudhary described the facility as a collaborative platform where farmers, researchers, and startups can co-create sustainable and scalable agri-solutions.
Officials believe the Agritech Innovation Hub could serve as a model for similar initiatives nationwide, contributing to India's economic and environmental goals by modernizing agriculture, enhancing productivity, and ensuring sustainable practices.
