Ford Struggles With Capacity Constraints, Rivals Leverage Tech
Ford, the American automaker, has been grappling with significant capacity constraints, regardless of the transport mode used. This was revealed at the Automotive Logistics and Supply Chain Europe conference in Bonn, Germany, where Ford's Martina Graser discussed the challenges faced by the company.
Ford's competitors, such as BMW and technology providers like CONSILIO, are leveraging digital tools and services to enhance transport capacity flexibility management. BMW's AIQX platform and digital production logistics innovations, along with advanced digital heuristics integrated into SAP systems by CONSILIO, are examples of this. Meanwhile, Ford's Martina Graser engaged in discussions about port congestion with representatives from Inform, RPM, and Sallaum Lines at the conference. She highlighted shipping as a major concern for Ford, with port and compound capacity currently operating at over 100% and exhibiting reduced efficiency.
Ford's current focus is on addressing the critical issues of port and compound capacity, which are currently at maximum capacity and functioning less efficiently. The company is exploring potential solutions to overcome these challenges and improve its supply chain management.
